Tortuga Photo Workshops

Travel Photography Adventure Workshops

“That’s a simple mantra and I repeat it like some mystical incantation rooted in utter practicality. I share it with other photographers and I endeavor to follow my own advice. As a result, I spend a great deal of time doing photo research, looking for great locations to shoot. Put simply, I’m a better photographer when I’m standing in front of something wonderful like the Grand Canyon.”

I spent a day this week back in the darkroom getting ready for the Holga workshop I’m teaching with Roberto Rosales in July. I felt compelled to shoot some details around the darkroom with my 5D while we developed the film. If you are a digital photographer and never spent much time working in the glow of the red light, then you may not appreciate the images. If that is the case, you don’t know what you are missing, and you should really take the workshop.

A great resource from PetaPixel.

“TED has some of the most interesting talks you’ll find on the web, with topics ranging from how diet can prevent cancer to demonstrations of amazing new photo technology. They also have a great collection of talks by photographers, and we’ve compiled a list of 14 of them here. These short talks are eye-opening, jaw-dropping, and often quite moving.”

“Copyright and licensing stock images can seem complicated, but it doesn’t have to be. The basics – what you need to know and what you need to do – aren’t hard to get to grips with.”

A true American legend, Bill Eppridge is one of the most accomplished photojournalists of the Twentieth Century and has captured some of the most significant moments in American history. The good folks at the Chicago Tribune have started a few new blogs with some good advice for photographers

“In the almost 20 years I’ve ‘been shooting, I’ve made a lot of mistakes. I’ve seen colleagues do the same, to the extent that we remark on them and try to find ways to solve them. I’ve tried to highlight the 7 below that seem to be the most common or the most dangerous…”

We here at Tortuga would love it if we were the only good photo workshop around, but certainly we’re not. We’re big fans of the late Eddie Adams, his work and and his workshop. It is a great opportunity for students who are ready to launch their professional careers, but be warned, the workshop is only offered to students and professionals with less than three years professional experience.  Nobody told Steven St. John that until it was too late…

“Application deadline for the Eddie Adams Workshop is Friday, May 28, 2010. The workshop will be October 8-11 in Jeffersonville, NY.”
