Photographer Roberto Rosales in El Salvador

Photojournalist Roberto Rosales (b. 1969) is a native of El Salvador. In 1980 he was forced to flee the violence during the country’s civil war. He moved to the USA where he attended school and began a new life. After graduating from the University of New Mexico, he returned to El Salvador where he taught his first workshops to local newspaper photography staffs. He returned to the states in 1998 and  a landed a job as a staff photographer for the Albuquerque Journal. Currently, in addition to working on daily assignments for the Journal, he is pursuing a project in El Salvador documenting the daily lives of local fishermen around the Gulf of Fonseca.

Photographer Steven St. John - self portrait in Guatemala

Albuquerque NM freelance photographer Steven St. John (b. 1977) worked as an assistant picture editor and staff photographer at The Albuquerque Tribune until it ceased publication in 2008. His work has been recognized multiple times by such organizations as the National Press Photographers Association, Pictures of the Year International, the Associated Press, and the Scripps Journalism Awards. In July of 2008, he traveled alone for six months in Central America studying Spanish while pursuing personal photo projects and working with NGO’s in Guatemala. Currently he is a freelance editorial and corporate photographer based in New Mexico where his clients include Discovery Communications and The Wall Street Journal.

In the summer on 2009 Rosales and St. John formed Tortuga Workshops with a goal of sharing their knowledge of photography and appreciation for the diversity of cultures around the world.
