The premier Tortuga Photo Workshop on the island of Meanguera will sharpen your photographic skills in a location full of surprises.

The island of Meanguera in El Salvador is surrounded by amazing natural geography and exotic beauty that will change the way you look at the world. With your camera and our guidance, we’ll help you improve your photography skills and the way you interact with your subjects. Every morning we’ll rise to amazing light, the perfect setting for capturing the daily lives of the local fishermen and the surrounding communities.

Within our daily excursions we will occasionally run into dolphins and sea turtles. You will have the opportunity each morning to select your own dinner – fresh caught fish sold by the fishermen waiting in the bay.

Our hotel, La Joya del Golfo (above) or “The Jewel of the Gulf” in English, sits on the water overlooking a bird sanctuary of Conchaguita. There are no cars on the island, offering workshop participants a glimpse of life as it has been for generations, a way of life that will not exist forever.

During the week, workshop participants will produce two important photo projects with their work.

The first is a audio slideshow presentation led by instructor Roberto Rosales which we will showcase on the final evening at our closing celebration. The entire community will be invited to attend the slideshow, giving photographers a great opportunity to thank their subjects.

For the second project, students will work closely to edit their best work into a custom designed photo book with instructor Steven St. John. Every workshop participant will receive a copy of the book for their personal library.
